What To Check In An Aluminium Window

Two aluminium windows can look the same and still differ in the frame, the handle, the glass and the Standards they're supplied to.

  • The Frame Series

Ask which series each quote is for, so you can compare like with like. Ours come in ML86, ML102 or ML102-TB.

  • A Thermal Break

A thermally broken frame has an insulating strip through it that stops the cold travelling into your room. Here's how thermally broken aluminium windows work.

  • The Handle

Our casement and sliding windows come with a Siegenia Aubi handle from Germany as standard, and a HOPPE handle is an option. Awning windows open with a manual winder, a small crank handle.

  • The Glass

You choose the glass. Low-E glass has a thin coating that reflects heat, and argon filled glass has a heavy gas sealed in the gap between the panes. Laminated glass holds together if it breaks, acoustic glass is laminated with a layer that damps sound, and tinted glass cuts glare. Our guide to glass options for double glazing explains each one.

  • The Standards

Our windows are supplied to AS 2047, the Australian Standard for windows, and AS 1288, the Standard for glass. Certification is available on request.
