Value Double Glazing Melbourne

Thermally Broken Aluminium Windows Melbourne

A thermally broken window frame is made in two halves, an outside and an inside, joined by an insulating strip called a thermal break.

Our thermally broken series is ML102-TB. It comes as an awning window, which is hinged at the top, and as a sliding door and a side-hinged casement door.

What Is A Thermally Broken Window?

A thermally broken window has an aluminium frame split into an outside half and an inside half. The halves are joined by a strip that doesn't carry heat or cold, called a thermal break. The strip stops the cold outside travelling through the metal into your room. In our range, the thermally broken series is ML102-TB. For thermally broken windows in Melbourne, that means the ML102-TB awning window.

Why A Plain Aluminium Frame Feels Cold

How The Thermal Break Works

The drawing cuts through a frame, seen from above, with outside on the left and your room on the right. Tap the two buttons to switch between the frames, and watch where the cold goes.

Plain Aluminium Frame

The metal runs in one piece from the outside face to the inside face, so the cold travels straight through to the room side.

Thermally Broken Frame

The frame is two aluminium sections joined by an insulating strip. Heat and cold don't pass through the strip the way they pass through metal, so the cold stops there.

So for a thermally broken window, pick the ML102-TB awning window. For a door, it's the ML102-TB sliding door or the ML102-TB casement door.

The rest of the range is double glazed aluminium without the break. You'll find all of it with our double glazed windows and double glazed doors.

Thermal Break And Double Glazing Together

ML102-TB windows and doors are double glazed, so the break in the frame and the sealed gap in the glass work side by side.

You choose the glass that goes in: low-E, argon filled, laminated, acoustic or tinted. Low-E glass has a very thin coating that reflects heat. Argon is a gas heavier than air that fills the gap between the panes.

Our guide to low-E glass and the other glass options explains each one.
